In August 2025, Høyskolen på Vestlandet (HVL) and the Norwegian forum for Offshore Survey and Positioning (NOSP) will embark upon a first-of-its-kind course in Norway to create the next generation of offshore surveyors.
Entitled “Offshore Survey Operations“, the course will run for 13 weeks over an autumn semester and will be open to all third year students studying land surveying and property design. Contributing 10 study points (studiepoeng) towards a student’s final grade it will comprise the following subjects:

Three assignments will further enhance the students’ understanding of subsea survey and positioning prior to a final exam in December.
This course flips the accepted formula for high school and college programmes as it is industry-driven by 13 companies providing their time free to create awareness, educate and prepare the students for a career in both nearshore and offshore survey operations.

More details will follow regarding an in-depth overview of the course’s content. However, if you have any questions or comments, or would like to know more, please contact NOSP Chairman Stuart Duncan on 984 04 200, or course owner at HVL, Stig Frode Samnøy, on 909 56 003.
